Strasbourg: Dr. Badr Abdel Atti, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, engaged with Ms. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, during his recent visit to the city. The meeting, held on Tuesday, aimed to reinforce the already thriving relations between Egypt and the European Union, which have been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership since March 2024.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdel Atti lauded the positive trajectory in bilateral relations, particularly following the successful Egyptian-European Investment Conference in June 2024. He emphasized Egypt’s potential to emerge as a regional hub for manufacturing, trade, and renewable energy, driven by the promising opportunities within its economy.
Minister Abdel Atti further elaborated on the purpose of his visit, which included discussions with heads of political groups and several committees within the European Parliament. This initiative underscores Egypt’s commitment to maintaining and deepening engagements with different political factions within the European Union. He reiterated the significance of the strategic partnership, expressing optimism for the approval of the second tranche of the European financial package.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted Egypt’s collaborative efforts with Qatar and the United States aimed at negotiating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, alongside the release of hostages and prisoners. Abdel Atti stressed the urgency of enhancing access to humanitarian and medical support and ensuring the timely implementation of subsequent phases.
The meeting also facilitated an exchange of views on a range of regional and international issues of shared interest, further cementing the multifaceted partnership between Egypt and the European Union.
