A training program for auditors of the Accreditation and Supervision Authority to advance the comprehensive health insurance system

In cooperation with Accreditation Canada International, a training Program for GAHAR surveyors aiming at pushing forward the Universal Health Insurance System in Egypt.

The Chairman of GAHAR, Prof. Ahmed Taha: Alignment with the International Healthcare Quality Standards, and a unified application of the standards is a main objective of GAHAR toward pushing forward the Universal Health Insurance System.

The Chairman of GAHAR, Prof. Ahmed Taha, stressed on the importance of sharing knowledge and expertise with the International counterparts to ensure the alignment with the international quality levels. He also welcomed the first fruits of cooperation with Accreditation Canada International, ACI, as one of the leading international accrediting organizations in healthcare quality; this is within the framework of GAHAR’s keenness on internationally accrediting its surveyors from the International Society for Quality, in Healthcare (ISQua), as part of sustaining the capacity building efforts of GAHAR.

This was mentioned in his opening speech to the condensed training program ceremony organized by GAHAR in cooperation with Accreditation Canada International (ACI), and the Health Standards Organization (HSO), for GAHAR’s surveyors; within the framework of the World Bank funding project to the Universal Health Insurance System (UHI).

The Chairman of GAHAR clarified that this 5-days training program held in Cairo, aims at ensuring the unified interpretation of the standards not only amongst GAHAR’s surveyors, but amongst the departments responsible of the technical support for the healthcare facilities including the provision of Self-Assessment Tools and overcoming the challenges to ensure their readiness for the UHI system, as well as the department responsible of monitoring the continuous compliance with the healthcare quality practices after registration and accreditation.

The Program includes a theoretical part about the assessment process and a practical part; in cooperation with the International Medical Center and the Saudi German Hospital, as one of the accredited stakeholders by GAHAR.

The program has 50 participants of GAHAR surveyors who are assigned for the survey process to the healthcare facilities according to GAHAR Standards, in addition to GAHAR’s departmental Heads of Technical Support for Healthcare Facilities (SAP) department; Registration and Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities and Healthcare Professionals Department; the Central Department of Health Control; and Representatives of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority (EHA).

This specialized training program is designed to include the most important technical and practical skills required for the healthcare facilities survey process including; Standards Structure and interpretation, survey schedules and preparations, survey scoring software, Accreditation Decision Rules, Communication skills amongst the survey team, mapping out the tracer, the Focus priority areas, in addition to the remarkable on-site challenges faced by the surveyors and solutions, and the pre and post-test of the survey process.
