A tragic life imposed on prisoners in Gilboa prison

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Prisoners’ Affairs Commission said this morning, Thursday, according to its lawyer’s visit to Gilboa prison two days ago, “The prisoners live a life of hell and death, and the policies, procedures and practices imposed on them daily deny their humanity, as they are treated with hatred, racism and fascist extremism.”

The Commission explained that there is a great focus on targeting the psychological state of the prisoners and destroying their internal content, through physical and verbal insults issued by the prison administration and police. Beating, cursing and swearing have become a fixed routine, in addition to forcing the prisoners to sit in certain positions during the count, as they are forced to kneel on the ground with their hands on their heads and their faces towards the wall, and they are forced to walk on lines drawn on the ground while going out for a break and moving around in it.

The Commission stated that the food provided to the prisoners is still poor in quantity and
quality, and that there is a severe shortage of clothing and blankets, in addition to the spread of skin diseases, and the absence of cleaning materials and disinfectants. The isolation of the prisoners from the outside world continues even within the framework of their communication inside the rooms, while the sections suffer from severe overcrowding to the point that the prisoner cannot sit or move except on the space of the mattress he owns.

The Commission’s lawyer visited the two prisoners, Muhammad Naghnaghiya (42 years old) from Jenin camp, who has been an administrative detainee since September 5, 2023, and Kamal Taym (25 years old) from the town of Kafr Sur in Tulkarm Governorate, who has been detained since September 6, 2022, and is still detained, and is brought before the court from time to time.
