9th International Calligraphy and Islamic Decoration Exhibition Opens in Amman

The ninth edition of the “International Calligraphy and Islamic Decoration Exhibition” was inaugurated Monday evening in Amman.

The event, organized by the Jordanian Calligraphy Forum, commemorates the silver jubilee of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s constitutional authority. The exhibition is being hosted at the Cairo Amman Bank Gallery in Wadi Saqra and will run until August 16.

The exhibition showcases 75 pieces of Arabic calligraphy, highlighting various styles such as Thuluth, Ruq’ah, and Naskh. In addition to calligraphy, the exhibit features Islamic decorative art using traditional ink, pigments, and hand-gilding techniques. Some artworks combine Arabic calligraphy with contemporary visual art, incorporating verses from the Quran, prophetic hadiths, Arabic poetry, and proverbs.

Jamal Al-Maghari, President of the Jordanian Calligraphy Forum, highlighted the forum’s commitment to cultural and artistic endeavors since its establishment in 2016. He underscored the forum’s role in contributing positively
to the cultural advancement of societies.
