8th edition of Enhancing Public Health Readiness and Response conference launched, 1st, final add

“We stand today before new, emerging, and exceptional challenges that have increased the complexity of the global health and humanitarian landscape, especially as the region is witnessing unprecedented humanitarian crises in Gaza and Sudan, in addition to the exacerbation of protracted crises in Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen, which in turn led to the decline of health systems and partially or completely disrupted the ability to provide basic health services, increased the rates of attacks on health workers, and led to the spread of diseases, malnutrition, and deteriorating mental health,” Nsour added.

The Director of the Office of Readiness and Response (ORR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Henry Walke, provided a comprehensive overview of international efforts to address emerging health threats.

He emphasized the importance of investing in national capacity building and strengthening international cooperation to ensure the health and safety of communities around the world.

At the
opening ceremony of the three-day conference, Maha Rabat, former Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, was presented with the EMPHNET Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to public health.

The regional conference includes interactive workshops and presentations on a wide range of pressing health issues, including communicable diseases, surveillance of emerging and re-emerging diseases, immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases, epidemiological investigations, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases.

Among the highlights of this conference are two forums to discuss the health challenges facing the Gaza Strip and Sudan, where priorities, challenges, and solutions in these two most affected regions in the region will be discussed and ways to provide the necessary support to them.

EMPHNET is a regional network operating in the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region, headquartered in Jordan, and contributes to the development of polic
ies and programs that aim to improve the response to health crises and enhance readiness in the face of emergency challenges.
