8 party lists and 49 local lists apply for candidacy on 2nd day: IEC

Amman: The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced that it received, on Wednesday, 57 applications to run for the elections within the local and general lists, on the second day of opening for candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections, bringing the total number of applications to 171.

The number of party lists and party alliances in the general constituency that applied for candidacy amounted to 8 lists, which included 237 male and female candidates, IEC spokesperson, Muhammad Khair Al-Rawashdeh said Wednesday in a statement.

As for the local electoral lists, there were 49 lists, which included 279 male and female candidates, spread across 18 electoral districts in the Kingdom, according to Al-Rawashdeh.

He explained that the total number of candidacy applications received by the IEC within the local and general lists in two days amounted to 171 applications that included 1,235 male and female candidates.

He pointed out that the process of receiving candidacy applications continues for t
hree days and Thursday is the last day for submitting candidacy applications, as it ends at the end of the official workday.

The IEC receives applications for candidacy for the local constituency at the headquarters of the election committees that are spread out and announced on its website, while applications for parties are received at the General Electoral District Election Committee at the IEC building.

The IEC Board of Commissioners is set to begin studying the candidacy applications on the next day from the date of receiving the application, as they are verified against meeting the conditions and criteria required for candidacy.
