69% of youngsters in Gaza received their 1st polio vaccination dosage, says ministry

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that 69 percent of children in the Gaza Strip between the ages of one day and 10 years have received the first dose of the polio vaccine.

The Palestinian Wafa News Agency cited a ministry statement as saying that seven days after the launch of the first round of the polio vaccination campaign, 69 percent of the targeted children received the first dose of the vaccine, as part of the ongoing campaign in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis governorates and neighboring areas, until Sunday evening.

According to the ministry, 441,647 children 49 percent of them female and 51 percent of them male received the first dose until Saturday evening.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, despite ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip and the high risk of traveling between vaccination centers, teams from the ministry, UNRWA, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF are continuing their efforts in the vaccination campaign. The first round of the campaign is st
ill underway in the Gaza and northern governorates.
