6.2-magnitude quake shakes Guatemala, no injuries, damage reported


GUATEMALA: A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Guatemala, with tremors felt in El Salvador and Nicaragua. No injuries or damage have been reported in the three countries.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) pinpointed the earthquake’s epicentre at 8 km southeast of Jalapa, at a depth of 265.5 km.

Central America lies on the Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, a vast zone of intense tectonic activity that extends along the western coast of the Americas and across the Pacific Basin.
