5,000 Egyptians Abroad to Participate in Al-Azhar’s Online Quran Memorization Initiative

CAIRO: Al-Azhar University has launched a new initiative to offer online Quran memorization programs to Egyptian expatriates, aiming to connect them with their Islamic heritage and enhance their understanding of Islamic teachings.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the program will be accessible online, allowing Egyptians living anywhere in the world to participate. Al-Azhar has undertaken rigorous interviews and assessments to select qualified instructors who will be vital in delivering high-quality Quranic education. These instructors will guide students through a comprehensive curriculum that includes tajweed (rules of recitation) and tafsir (interpretation), providing personalized support and ensuring a thorough learning experience.

The initiative is designed to accommodate learners of all ages and proficiency levels, intending to create an engaging and supportive educational environment. It is expected to have a substantial impact on Egyptian expatriates by offering them a platform to strengthen their faith, connect with their cultural roots, and contribute to the preservation of Islamic values.

The program has already attracted considerable interest, with over 5,000 applications received from Egyptians in 69 countries. The first cohort of students is scheduled to begin studies in January 2025, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman al-Dawayni, Deputy Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. This effort underscores Al-Azhar University’s dedication to serving the global Muslim community and advancing Islamic education on an international level.
