Amman: The net jobs that were created in the Jordanian labor market in the public and private sectors reached 48,779 during the second half of 2023, an increase of 2,216 from the first half of the same year and an increase of 2,496 from the second half of 2022.
The increase in jobs created in the Kingdom during the second half of last year amounted to 4.8 percent, compared to the first half of the same year, and 5.4 percent, compared to the second half of 2022.
The Department of Statistics (DoS) indicated in its semi-annual report on job creation in the Kingdom on Monday that the number of new jobs during the second half of 2023 amounted to 98057, and the jobs that were left amounted to 49278.
The results showed that the net jobs created for males amounted to 31,239, accounting for 64 percent of the total net jobs created, while the net jobs for females amounted to 17540, or 36 percent, so the net jobs created for females increased by 5333 and decreased for males by 3116 compared to the first half of 2023.
According to the report, the net number of jobs created in the Jordanian labor market during 2023 totaled 95,342 (65,595 for males and 29,748 for females) compared to 89,504 jobs during 2022.
The age group (20-29 years) obtained the largest share of the net jobs created, amounting to 43637 at 89.5 percent, followed by the age group (30-39 years) with 9059 jobs at 18.6 percent, then the age group (15-19 years) with 3305 jobs at 6.8 percent, noting that the age group (40+ years) lost 7221 jobs, a decline of 14.8 percent.
According to the report, the net job creation varied by educational level and gender, with males accounting for 38.8 percent of the net job creation among those with a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 69.7 percent for females.
The private sector contributed the majority of the net jobs created with 31,996, or 65.6 percent, while the public sector contributed 1,039 jobs, or 34.9 percent, and non-governmental organizations lost 0.6 percent.
