4 drug busts in crackdown across Kingdom

Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) officers foiled four attempts to smuggle drugs into or out of the Kingdom in the past few days, the Public Security Directorate’s media spokesman said.

One of these involved two people preparing large quantities of narcotic pills to be smuggled in a shipment of building stone to a neighboring country, who were arrested and 147,000 narcotic pills seized, he said.

In another operation, an investigation team gathered information about a person in the Kingdom preparing to receive from smugglers and drug dealers in a neighboring country narcotic pills smuggled in a truck, where 200,000 narcotic pills were seized and the suspect arrested.

At a border crossing, workers seized a food shipment (olives and cheese), where 40,000 narcotic pills were stashed inside packages, and two suspects, including one of an Arab nationality, were arrested, said the spokesman.

In the fourth drug bust, AND agents were tipped about a person hiding a quantity of narcotic pills inside his cargo vehicle,
who was apprehended and 35,000 narcotic pills were seized.

AND officers also carried out campaigns south of Amman, where 10 suspects were found with various quantities of narcotic substances found in their possession, and similar crackdowns were launched in the Central and Northern Badia regions.
