Amman: As of mid-2023 until June, 1, 2024, the Ministry of Social Development granted 300 fundraising approvals, including permits to fund-raise campaigns for the Gaza Strip.
The approvals were granted, based on requests submitted to the ministry by its affiliated associations and other officially registered bodies, adding that all donations made through Jordan Hashemite Charitable Organization (JHCO), or any joint partnerships with it are licensed as per the laws in force.
In a statement Thursday, the ministry said the effective Social Development Law regulated Jordan’s fundraising activities and expanded the process to grant prior approvals.
the statement added that this process aimed to regulate the Kingdom’s fundraising operations, protect their managers from legal prosecution, safeguard society from exploitation, and ensure that all donations reach eligible beneficiaries.
The ministry announced it has already referred a number of individuals and 14 associations from the Kingdom’s several regions to P
ublic Prosecution since the Social Development Law came into effect last April for collecting donations without obtaining prior approvals, after the ministry received complaints in this regard.
