Time-related tariffs subsidize industry, don’t raise electricity prices, Energy Minister says, 2nd, final add

He clarified that the time-related tariff excluded industries that operate around the clock, like the plastics industry, until their conditions were investigated and the best formula was selected for them.

He emphasized the need to leverage the new tariff, especially during periods of high electricity production from renewable energy, noting that it does not target electric cars and that cars can be charged during the reduction periods.

The minister underscored that the Kingdom’s electrical system is able to cope with the loads and has enough generating capacity to cover those loads.

He stated that the Jordanian electrical system is highly reliable, equivalent to that of developed countries, and that the network is operating efficiently, with the new tariff increasing its efficiency and dependability.

Kharabsheh went on to say that thanks to the electrical system’s efficiency, Jordan has not had to resort to cutting electricity to lower loads, as other countries have, emphasizing the necessity to rational
ize energy consumption.

Minister Mubaidin said that the government is keen to enhance the availability of information to the media and the public, and to clarify all new government decisions and measures, including the electricity tariff.

He continued by saying that the Ministry of Government Communications is eager to address questions from the media and provide clarification on information by hosting regular press conferences and a weekly forum on government communication on matters of public interest and the advancement of services offered to them.

He stated that the purpose of this press conference is to inform the media about the specifics of the new electricity tariff and which sectors will benefit from, emphasizing that this tariff is part of national programs aimed at reducing industrial sectors power bill in accordance with the economic modernization vision.

Time-related tariffs subsidize industry, don’t raise electricity prices, Energy Minister says, 1st add

Partial peak from 14:00 to 17:00 and 23:00 to 05:00: Extractive Industrial 216 (fils/kWh), Large Industrial 120, Medium Industrial 69, Telecommunications 142, Vehicle/Household Charging 118, Vehicle/Public Station Charging without commission 113, and Optional Water Pumping 96.

The minister called on the industrial sectors to interact with the time-linked tariff and make the most of the periods when electricity prices are reduced by shifting work periods from peak times to partial peak and off-peak periods, which will reduce production costs for the targeted sectors by at least 12 percent.

Kharabsheh explained that the tariff simply means transferring part of the electrical load to light consumption periods, which were granted reduced prices to encourage the industrial sector to benefit from, and is based on transferring part of the load from the peak period to the off-peak period.

He added that the tariff was approved after a two-year study during which the concerned authorities realized how important it w
as to apply it to some sectors that had finished the process of switching from electric to smart meters, and then to the remaining sectors later on, following a thorough study, noting that the tariff will not include the domestic sector, and that it has nothing to do with the debt of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).

He also stated that the new tariff aims to lower production costs for the industrial sectors, emphasizing that the average cost of consumption will remain unchanged compared to the pre-new tariff.

Time-related tariffs subsidize industry, don’t raise electricity prices, Energy Minister says

Amman: The time-related electricity tariff, which will be imposed on some sectors as of July, would not boost electricity prices, and its average is equal to the current electricity pricing on the targeted sectors, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh.

He said that the expected savings from the adoption of this tariff exceeds JD2,250 million on the industrial sector if 25 percent of the electrical loads are transferred to periods of low consumption (partial peak and off-peak).

Kharabsheh explained that the new tariff is divided into three time periods: Peak, partial peak (two periods), and off-peak, including electric vehicle
charging, telecommunications, medium and large industries, extractive industries, and water pumping (optional).
