UAE participates in BRICS Chief Justices Forum in Russia


SOCHI: The United Arab Emirates participated in the BRICS Chief Justices Forum, chaired by the Russian Federation. Delegations from a number of member states also attended.

The UAE delegation was headed by Mohammed Hamad Al Badi, President of the Federal Supreme Court, accompanied by Judge Shihab Abdul Rahman Al-Hammadi, Judge Ibrahim Obaid Ali Al Ali, and Nasser Saeed Nasser Al Shebli.

In his opening speech, Al Badi highlighted the importance of strengthening global governance for the international community to share development opportunities and address global challenges. He stressed that international rules should be established and maintained by all in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.

Al Badi further highlighted that a safe investment environment is key to achieving sustainable economic development. He pointed to the judiciary’s vital role in protecting investors’ rights, encouraging investment, and fostering a stable and reliable business environment.

preme Court reviewed the UAE’s robust legal framework, including the Constitution and applicable laws, which guarantee the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms during criminal proceedings in line with international standards.

China issues blue alert for severe convective weather in many areas


BEIJING: China’s meteorological authority on Friday issued a blue alert for severe convective weather in vast parts of the country, reported Xinhua.

From Friday morning to Saturday morning, thunderstorms, gales and hail will sweep parts of Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou, with the maximum wind force reaching 17.2 to 28.4 meters per second, according to the National Meteorological Centre.

Short-term heavy rainfall with hourly precipitation ranging from 20 mm to over 50 mm will lash parts of Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hubei, Hunan, Zhejiang, Chongqing, and Guizhou, the meteorological centre said.

It has advised the public to take precautions against heavy rain, thunder and gales, and has recommended reducing outdoor activities.

Vessels operating in or transiting affected waters should return to port or take detours, according to the centre.

Five dead, dozens injured in wildfires in Southeastern Turkey


ISTANBUL: Five people died and dozens were hurt in wildfires that broke out in several villages in Southeastern Turkey yesterday evening, Turkey’s Health Minister said on Friday.

“Five people died and 44 were injured, 10 seriously, when the blaze swept through two areas near the city of Mardin in Southeastern Turkey,” Health Minister Fahrettin Koca wrote on X platform.

TRENDS, CICG organise panel discussion at Beijing International Book Fair


BEIJING: TRENDS Research and Advisory in collaboration with the China International Communications Group (CICG) organised a panel discussion titled “China and the GCC States: Strengthening Cooperation and Partnership” at the Beijing International Book Fair 2024 in Beijing.

The event – attended by Hussein Ibrahim Al-Hammadi, Ambassador of the UAE to the People’s Republic of China – featured a select group of experts and officials from both sides.

Experts, researchers, and academics affirmed the deep historical and cultural ties between the GCC countries and China, noting that these relations are witnessing remarkable growth and serve as a model for international cooperation based on mutual respect and shared benefits.

The panellists discussed various fields of cooperation between China and the GCC countries, emphasising the importance of enhancing cooperation to serve mutual interests and achieve sustainable development for both sides.

Held in the Events Centre at Beijing International Book Fair, the panel
discussion highlighted the strong cultural relations between China and the GCC countries, which date back centuries and encompass a wide range of sectors, including energy, investment, infrastructure, technology, culture, and innovation. It also stressed the importance of further efforts in the field of culture and the exchange between GCC and Chinese media and think tanks to reflect the depth of these relationships.

They also underscored the deep relations between the United Arab Emirates and China, noting that mutual respect and common interests are the foundation of this solid relationship.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory, emphasised the importance of the historical and cultural relations between China and the GCC countries.

He noted that cooperation between the two sides has seen remarkable growth over the past decades, covering a wide range of sectors, including energy, trade, investment, infrastructure, innovation, technology, and culture.

Dr. Al-Ali pointed out tha
t cooperation in the energy sector remains the cornerstone of bilateral relations, affirming TRENDS’ significant interest in Chinese affairs, given China’s status as a rising major international power and its pivotal role in the global economy.

Yu Tao, Vice President of CICG, affirmed China’s commitment to building a community of shared future with Arab countries, highlighting the steady development of the strategic partnership between China and the GCC countries.

He emphasised CICG’s interest in developing relations with Arab countries across various fields, including culture, education, think tanks, and media, explaining that CICG annually publishes over 3,000 books in more than 40 languages, edits 36 magazines in 14 languages, and distributes books and periodicals in more than 180 countries and regions around the world.

EgyptAir operates 8 flights Friday to bring pilgrims back home


EgyptAir will operate Friday 21/6/2024 eight flights to transport pilgrims back home after performing the Hajj rituals.

In a statement Thursday 20/6/2024, the state-owned flag carrier said that seven flights will be operated from Jeddah to Cairo and one flight from Taif to Cairo.

The returnees include pilgrims of missions of the Ministry of Interior, Social Solidarity, Civil Aviation and the House of Representatives, as well pilgrims from various governorates and transit pilgrims.

Health Ministry: 454,879 newborns examined as part of presidential initiative


The Ministry of Health and Population khaled Abdul Ghafar announced on Friday 21/6/2024 that 454,879 babies have so far been screened as part of a presidential initiative for the early detection of genetic diseases in newborns.

Launched under the ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ presidential initiative, this campaign kicked off on July 13, 2021, aiming to build a disability-free healthy generation.

The first phase of the initiative includes detecting 19 genetic diseases in premature infants in hospital nurseries, affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, according to the ministry’s Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

He said that the second phase entails screening newborns in all nurseries of university hospitals, private hospitals and health units nationwide.

According to Soad Abdel Meguid, head of the health care and nursing sector, the 19 diseases being screened included congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, folic anemia, cystic fibrosis, hereditary hyperlipidemia, phenylketon
uria, tetraplegic deficiency Hydropetrin, organic acidity, elevated blood Isovaleric acidemia, elevated blood propionate/methylmalone, maple urine disease, blood tyrosine elevation-type 1, hypergalactosemia, elevated urine homocysteine, elevated blood arginine, elevated blood citrulline, ornithine deficiency Carbamoyl transporter, fatty acid oxidation and biotinidase deficiency.

The screening is carried out by taking a blood sample from the child’s heel, and analysing it at the Egyptian Centre for Diseases and Control (ECDC), Abdel-Razek explained.

Meanwhile, the ministry has announced that 13,627,511 citizens have been examined as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative to examine and treat chronic diseases and provide early detection for kidney diseases since the launch of the initiative in September 2021 up to date.

The initiative operates through 3,601 primary care units nationwide and aims to provide early diagnosis.

All efforts are meant to treat chronic diseases and provide high-quality
health services to all citizens in the age group over 40 years, in addition to young people over the age of 18 who have a history of chronic diseases.
