1st Talgo train on Cairo-Luxor line to be operated Sunday: Transport min.

The operation of the first Talgo train trip on Cairo-Luxor line will start on Sunday, announced Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir.

The first train on the Cairo-Alexandria line was operated at the end of December, added the minister.

Starting on Sunday, the train will depart from Misr station in Cairo at 10:50 PM to reach Luxor at 8:50 AM, said the minister.

He further noted that the train will stop at stations of Giza, Assuit, Sohag and Qena, adding that the trips will be operated on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

The operation of the new train comes as part of the political leadership’s directives to upgrade railway mechanism, including carriages and human cadres, to ensure better services to citizens, added the minister.

Shedding light on the Talgo’s exclusive technology, the minister said that the new trains are made of aluminum, which reduces their weight and helps reduce the train’s fuel consumption during the journey.

For people with special needs, each seat of the first air-conditioned carriages is equipped with a display screen to display information, in addition to the presence of central screens in the second-class air-conditioned carriages, said the minister, noting that the carriages are also fitted with surveillance cameras for security.
