BUCHAREST: Romania witnessed 148 deaths in road accidents due to speeding in the first seven months of this year, Romanian news agency AGERPRES reported on Tuesday.
A total of 385 serious road accidents occurred nationwide between 1st January and 31st July due to speeding in which 148 people died and 330 were seriously injured, according to a press release issued by the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR).
About 17 percent of all serious accidents were caused by speeding. An awareness programme will be organised to ensure compliance with the legal speed limit and preventing road accidents caused by excessive speed, IGPR said.
