1,106 drug dealers nabbed in July crackdown

Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel arrested a total of 1,106 individuals, who were implicated in 599 drug-related offenses during the month of July, the Public Security Directorate’s spokesman said Tuesday. During the crackdown, large quantities of drugs were seized, including 71 kg of hashish, 400,000 pills of Captagon, 6,000 other narcotic pills, 5.5 kilograms of crystal meth, 20kg of marijuana, 500 grams of industrial marijuana, 2.3 kilograms of cannabis powder, as well as a variety of firearms. The AND also carried out 626 awareness and educational events last month, including courses, lectures, workshops and seminars in partnership with academic and media agencies and partners. Also in July, a total of 96 people were admitted or referred to the AND-run addiction treatment center, he added.
